| Whitebait can be difficult to spot in the tea coloured water typical of the South Island's West Coast. Having whitebait in the bucket is a good feeling. Some days whitebaiters can make huge catches running to many kilograms; whilst on other days catches will be more modest. Each day when you arrive at the river there is no telling whether it will be a good or poor day. The only answer is to fish every day available during the three month season. |
