Salmon taken at McIntoshes Hole near the Waimakariri Rivermouth. Below: Another salmon caught down at the mouth a little earlier. It will provide quite a few very tastie fish dinners!

Waimakariri River Salmon

Left: This gleaming silver salmon is fresh from the sea and in excellent condition. It weighed in at 17 lb. Caught at McIntoshes Rocks around midday. The Waimakariri River generally fishes later than the other major salmon rivers. Now is the best time to "go hard" at the Waimakariri if you want to catch one before the end of the season. Below: Salmon anglers at the confluence of the Waimakariri and Kaiapoi Rivers. This has been a popular fishing spot for salmon this season.
