Salmon Anglers on Waimakariri River, near Christchurch
Salmon anglers at McIntoshes Rocks on the lower Waimakariri River.

There have been only a handful of salmon caught at McIntoshes Rocks so far this season. River levels in Canterbury have been low with little rain falling in the region.

Lower Waimakariri River. The water a good colour for salmon fishing.

These pictures were taken on 2 January 2006. River conditions were good for salmon but there were none caught in the lower Waimakariri River to our knowledge. One bloke did catch a large kahawai at McIntoshes. At least one salmon was taken at McIntoshes on 28 December.

Notably there are not many anglers chasing salmon hard at present which indicates few fish around!
