This type of runabout is not usually associated with fishing in the Waimakariri River. However the lower tidal reaches below the confluence with the Kaiapoi River can accommodate careful boaties in pursuit of salmon or just a bit of fun on the water. This little cabin cruiser makes an excellent salmon fishing platform near McIntoshes Rocks on the Waimakariri River. Sure you could probably cast out this far from the river bank but it wouldn't be nearly as much fun. Also your zed spinner is in the strike-zone longer as you retrieve it to the boat. The catch rate for boat anglers would be much higher than for shore fishermen fishing the same water. I have often witnessed anglers from boats catching salmon when few or none are being caught from the rocks. A boat allows you to fish in a slightly different area where perhaps the salmon are gathering. Just what do salmon eat? Return to: Waimakariri Salmon |
