Lake Tekapo Canals Rainbow Trout
David van Rooyen, from Timaru, with his 24 pound rainbow trout from the Lake Tekapo Canals.

This enormous rainbow trout was caught in the Lake Tekapo canals on Saturday, the 3rd of January 2009 about 10:00 in the morning by David van Rooyen from Timaru. David said, " I used 3kg supple Black Magic line The exact configuration of my lure for some mysterious reason escapes me now!" It weighed 24 pounds and was 91 cm in length. "I will say though that I caught it very close to the side and not in the deep waters." Fly fishing and Spinning for trout in the South Island can get you some big fish! Congratulations David. I suspect that it will be quite difficult for anyone to catch a heavier one!

Most trout are caught Harling and Trolling on Lake Brunner; flyfishing is the norm in the feeder streams and Arnold River outlet. Lake Brunner is a great place for fishing and family boating beach picnics to inaccessible places. A brace of dark coloured brown trout from taken trolling on Lake Brunner. A Fish and Game officer measures and weighs each fish entered in the local Lake Brunner fishing contest. A fantastic view across Lake Brunner from the motels at Moana. You can see trout rising here in the early morning stillness for miles across the lake.
