Skate Boys Nape Nape Beach

These Rough Skate - Raja nasuta - where caught at Nape Nape Beach in North Canterbury during the South Island Surfcasting Championships. Interestingly there were all caught along a short stretch of the shingle beach perhaps indicating the need to move up or down the beach if the fish aren't biting in your spot.

The wings are skinned and make good eating. These one are about average size.

Skate can grow surprisingly large.
