Fine braid will cut your fingers very easily. Denis Moresby told me that one year when he was up at the Ninety Mile Beach Surfcasting Classic in Northland there was a bit of a commotion going on just up the beach soon after the event had started. It turned out that this bloke had tried to cast with super-braid and had cut part of his forefinger off! The reel drag was not done up tight so it slipped as he cast. It was a “hospital job!” If you are going to cast an eggbeater reel spooled up with super-braid you need to protect your fingers.

The best way to do this is with a handy little device that you tape onto your rod next to your reel called a “thumb caster.” The super-braid is held in a type of clip that you release with your thumb during the cast. This allows a great deal of casting power to be generated and, most importantly, protects your fingers from harm at the same time! The Saltec Thumb Caster is particularly useful with heavier sinkers up to 8 ounces.

It comes with a full set of instructions on how and where to connect it to your rod and how to use it correctly.

"I have no hesitation in recommending this product to you. It works! Allan Burgess - FishingMag.co.nz"
