Shimano Calcutta CT-700
Salmon taken on Calcutta 700

This Shimano Calcutta CT-700, fitted with a CT-400 paddle handle, has been used by the author to land a fresh run quinnat salmon from the surf. The fish weighed 16 lbs. Note the typical low-mount reel position on the 13 foot Harrison rod. Fitting baitcasters to low-mount rods to fish for salmon in the surf became fashionable in Canterbury during the late 1980s with the switch from fibreglass to much lighter graphite rods. Today most salmon/surf rods are low-mount. Back to Shimano Calcutta CT-700
