Clutha River
Catching a salmon in the Clutha is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack. The Clutha is both wide and long. Some 200 kilometres in length this wide body of water winds its way across the countryside from Lake Wanaka in Central Otago. There is a variable salmon run and good trout fishing along its entire length.
Salmon can travel upstream only as far as the Roxburgh Dam and are caught there by anglers fishing with spinning gear later in the season after Christmas. |
