Kaikoura - Small boat launching ramp at Boat Harbour, Goose Bay.
Barney's Rock

Barney's Rock viewed from the sea. At this point just 1,000 meters from shore the sea is over 1,000 metes deep! The fishing here is extremely good. Schools of kahawai and barracouta work vast schools of bait fish all along the coast. Sea Perch, groper and blue cod are caught on the slopes. There are also a host of other species to be found in these deep nutrient-rich waters including: mako and blue shark, rays and skates, mullet, trumpeter, ling, slender tuna and albacore tuna.

Rileys Lookout is at the northern end of Goose Bay.: named after the early whaler and settler Barney Riley who lived in the area between 1857 and the turn of the century. Riley was said to have used the rock to spot for whales. It is now known as Barney's Rock. The Maori name for this small island and important landmark is Panau Island. Panau: to slope, or jump like a fish. You will catch fish from a boat anywhere that you drop your line along this stretch.
