Barney's Rock ( Panau Island)
Barney's Rock

Barney's Rock pictured from the road. Named after the early whaler and settler Barney Riley who lived in the area between 1857 and the turn of the century. It is said that he climbed the rock to spot for whales.

The Maori name for this landmark is Panau Island.
