There appears to be two different covers for this same edition.

By no means does this book seek to list and describe the trout fishing waters of the South Island rather it provides a glimpse into the many varied waters and scenery available to the traveling angler.

Perhaps aimed more at the visitor from overseas this book does nevertheless contain much to interest the locals. The considerable angling experience of the authors shines through as they offer advice on tackle, clothing and equipment, entomology and fly patterns to use.

The book also covers the different approaches required to fish small streams, rivers and lakes and the varied modes of transport to get you there including helicopters, four-wheel-drive vehicles, jetboats, small boats, rafting and so on.

There is also advice for the overseas visitor on such subjects as banking hours, accommodation, health services restaurants and such like.

A chapter on angling etiquette should point the visitor in the right direction. It is certainly true that there is far more angling pressure on our lakes and rivers that was the case twenty years ago. This is even true of low-land fishing near big population centers. Many anglers would venture out for the first few weeks of a new season in the spring but would soon loose interest. Nowadays more anglers are traveling greater and greater distances to fish. Modern 4WD vehicles, helicopters and jet boats have improved access to waters that were once rarely fished only by those on foot. The authors point out that there is plenty of water for everyone if a few simple rules are adhered to.

Overall an excellent book with plenty of good advice for anyone considering chasing the browns and rainbows of New Zealand's South Island. Well worth the retail price of NZ$39.95
