Simon caught this salmon in the Waimakariri River on a new rod bought the previous evening, using a shiny metal lure. "It was my FIRST cast after a break of 35 years," said Simon. "I had previously given up, in desperation, as I never ever caught a fish."
The rod was a graphite one, with a shimano reel, bought from Hamills in Rangiora. The salmon weighed in at 23lbs.
Well Simon what can I say to that other than congratulations and well done! I like that story a lot. It just might be a good week to buy a Lotto ticket!
