This thresher shark was caught on the morning of 20 December 2010 at Birdlings Flat south of Banks Peninsula by Ian Robertson. The
estimated weight of the big shark was over 60kg. It was taken on 35 lb braid spooled on a Tica reel and 4.5 m
telescopic surf rod with a prawn, squid and mussel combination bait. There may have been a mall
fish on line before he struck. The battle lasted over an hour. Ian was fishing for
elephant fish at the time. Well done Ian!
