Lake Paringa and Paringa River
Lake Paringa sits amid thick bush in a very isolated part of the South Island's West Coast. Thinck bush surrounds the lake to such an extent that shore fishing is partically impossible without boat access. Most fish are taken by trolling from boats. Though in recent years kayak fishing has increased in popularity.
Salmon Released. In 2011 there were 5,000 salmon fingerlings released into Lake Paringa. The young salmon where reared by Pacifika Salmon in the Malborough Sounds and originally come from wild, Lake Paringa stock. These small salmon weighed 70 grams, which gives them a good chance of surviving predation and returning over the next three seasons.
