$10,000 ITM Kahawai World Cup is back

The 2nd ITM Kahawai World Cup – Surfcasting Competition is back and is to be held in March 2012 on Papamoa Beach. The competition run by the Rotary Club of Papamoa in association with the Western Bay Surfcasting Club will be held on the 16 th, 17th and 18 th March.

The $10,000 cash prize for the heaviest Kahawai is again being sponsored by ITM and will be a big drawcard as it was last year. The Teams competition proved very popular during the 2011 event and this will be expanded for 2012. It is expected that the total prize value will exceed $30,000

Rotary Convenor of the fishing competition, Paul Doherty, said “that with all the positive feedback that we received after this year's competition, a limit may have to be put on the number of entries for 2012.”

The weekend begins on the Friday night with a briefing for all anglers, then on Saturday fishing commences at 7am through until 4pm with the daily prize giving and evening entertainment.

Sunday fishing is from 6am until 1pm with the main prize giving around 2pm , so that people from out of Tauranga can get away at a reasonable time. This year anglers came from all over the North Island with some also coming from the West Coast of the South Island .

Fishing guru Bill Hohepa rated the ITM Kahawai World Cup as one of the best organised contests he has been involved with and will be in attendance handing out the prizes next March.

Those wanting to enter now should go to the website www.kahawaiworldcup.com for an entry form and be in the running to win the special early bird entry prize.

All profits from the event will be used for Rotary projects.
