Bait: Buying, Catching and Storing
Casting Nets A casting net makes it possible to quickly catch a good supply of bait fish.
Tua tua This bi-valve shellfish is readily available on sandy beaches around New Zealand
Yabbies Saltwater shrimp, is one of the best baits available for a wide range of species. I've used them successfully to catch flounder, red cod, tarakihi and rainbow trout. When it comes to catching yellow-eyed mullet for later use as surfcasting bait the yabbie is without peer!
Yellow-eyed Mullet Fresh yellow-eyed mullet make excellent surfcasting bait; particularly for red cod. It also freezes well to be used later as bait.
